Based on the presentation by Ms. Shui, think about the following situations and answer each. If you need to look over the presentation again, examine your handouts or access the slides in the W8 share folder on Venus.
Your answers should be at least three sentences long; hopefully they will be longer.
Situation 1:
Sneakers
- Suppose 2 types of sneakers are compared on how long each type lasts, based on how much the soles wear down in 3 months.
- Each person in one group gets a brand new pair of Type A sneakers, and each person in another group gets a brand new pair of Type B sneakers.
- At the end of 3 months the soles of sneaker Type A are compared to the soles of sneaker Type B.
QUESTION: Before enrolling people in this study, what are some questions you may want to ask them about their lifestyles and habits that might influence how worn their sneaker soles will be 3 months later?
Situation 2:
Overweight Dogs
- Suppose 2 groups of overweight dogs are fed the same amount of food each day, but one group is given Brand A food, and the other group is given Brand B food.
- After a month on this study diet, the average weight change from the day they began the study is recorded for each group.
- The Brand A average weight change is compared to the Brand B average weight change.
QUESTION: Before enrolling dogs in this study, what are some questions you may want to ask the owners about their pets pertaining to characteristics or lifestyles that might influence how their dogs’ weights change over the month?
Situation 1:
How much do you run/walk every day? Would you wear them in the rain? Do you keep your shoes on while you are inside?
Situation 2:
How much do you walk your dog? Does much does your dog eat usually? What type of dog is your dog?
Connor J.
I would ask the people if they exersized all the time, how much they wear sneakers. how heavey they are, where do they live, and what was there job? because if you were a doctor you would be on there feet more than a recepinost. and if they lived in the city they would have flatter ground than someone who live in the mountains.
Natalie
Situation 1
They’re are a few question you need to ask them.
-How much do you walk/run everyday?
-How much do you weigh?
-Where do you run, walk, etc.?
-Do you ever loan your sneakers to anyone?
-Are there any other activities you do in your sneakers?
Max
Situation 1
Befror enrolling people in this study study, I would want to ask them a few things about their everyday life styles.
- How much do you weight?
- How active are you?
- What types of places do you go to?
- Whats your job?
- How often do you wear sneakers.?
Situation 1
Some questions that I would want to ask the people are:
1.) What kind of a job do you have? If you work in an office, your sneakers wouldn’t get as run down as a person who might be a dog walker or somebody who works in a store.
2.) How do you get around? Do you drive, walk, or ride a bike?
3.) What kind of activities do you do? Yoga and tennis wouldn’t wear your shoes out as much as soccer or cross country.
4.) Another question you might ask is, how do you walk? Some people get the soles of their shoes worn out quicker, because maybe they drag their feet. (this is if you really wanted to get into detail in your report.)
In situation 1 the questions that you ask are :
How far do you walk every day?
Do ever run?
Do you play sports?
In situation 2 the questions that you ask are.
How much does your dog exercise?
How much time does he spend lying around?
How often do you play with your dog?

why did they let your dog get overweight for?
How could they let yours dog get that why for ?
How much did the dog weight?
situation 1
sabrina Linscott
Some questions that you may want to ask about dogs lifestyles are:
Does the dog get enough exersize eachday, does your dog usually gain weight fast, do you leave them in your house all day, At dinner do you feed the dog people food, Are the dogs the same breed because different dogs have different kinds of food. Do you play with them and do you even bring them places with you. You would also want to know if the dogs have illnesses that would effect their eating abilities.
situation 1 above
Situation 1:
Sneakers
My questions for the people who wears the sneakers are, if they were like athletes it would be sooo warn out, if you were like a Doctor you have to be on your feets. Some jobs contains walking. If you live in a city such as New York City, Bostion, etc, you have to walk because taking a car causes alot of problems.
Keshia
ia few questions i’d ask for situation 1 would be:
-what is your job
-age
-how much you wear them a day
-do you play any sports or hike.
-what weather you wear them in
-do u wear socks
because if you are the high school track team and you walk home it would be a lot more warn-out then some who gets a ride home and just watches TV all day.

You might want to ask what thier jobs were so they know what could have made the sneakers where done faster or if this would affect their study. Also they might want to ask what hobbies the person might have like if they run a mile a day it might where done the soles of the shoes faster than all the others that might drive so the people studying this would want to add this to their data to see what the difference would be.
What is the weight of the dogs and what what activities they do with their dogs to see what might affect the data in a certain way. So they know what they should add to their data.Or how old the dogs are so then like maybe the older dogs is larger then the younger dog bacuse of their age.
Commenting on situation #1 some questions I would ask people before enrolling them into the expierement are:
1. How often do you engage in high endurance activities?
2. How old are you?
3. How much do you weigh?
I would ask question #1 because high endurance activities wear out the soles of sneakers faster than low endurence activities. The more often a person engages in high endurence activities the faster their sneakers will wear out. I would ask question #2 because age effects how often a person needs to rest and how much strength and energy they have to walk around a lot and be active. I would ask question #3 because weight affects how much pressure is on the soles of the sneakers and also, like the age of the person, how much strength and energy they might have to walk around a lot and be active.
by Zahri D.
Commenting on situation #2 some questions I would ask the owners about their dogs before enrolling them into the study are:
1. How often do you walk you pet?
2. What breed is your pet?
3. How old is your pet?
I would ask question #1 because the amount of excercise the dog gets will effect how much weight they lose no matter which type of new dog food they ate. I would ask question #2 because the breed of dog will effect their reaction to the new minerals in the food they will be eating. I would ask question #3 because the age of the dog, like the age of a person, will effect how often they excecise and play how often they lay about and sleep.

For the sneakers, you’ll want to ask the people how much they walk in a day. That could affect how quickly their sneakers are worn out. You’ll also want to ask them if they do anything else, like dance, that could wear down the soles of their shoes.
For the dogs, you should ask the owners how many meals the dogs eat in a day, and how active the dogs are.
Grania P.
Situation 1:
I’d have to ask them how often they went out, or exercised. I’d have to ask them what kind of weather they’d wear the shoes in, how much they weighed, etc.
Situation 2:
I’d ask how much their dog weighed, what kind of breed it was, how often they went outside (to run around or something), and if their dog was an older dog or not.
Nicole E. c: -smileeee-
Situation A:
I would ask people how often they exersize and how often they walk from place to place and make sure that they have similar habits.
Situation B:
I would ask the owners the same thing that I asked the people about there sneakers except I would be asking it about there dogs.
I forgot one for the shoes. You should ask the people how much they weigh, because that could affect the soles of the shoes.
Some questeions that you might ask about sneakers are:
1) How many times a week do you run, walk or jog.
2) How much do you wear them a day.
Some questions that you might ask an owener about their over wheight dog is:
1) do you take them for walkes
2)how many times a day do you feed them.
3)How many hours do they sleep.
Situation 2: Well what kind of dog is it? what food did you give it (iamsETC.)?what kind of enviorment was it in? do it play a lot or just a little ? what did you do to it like shove food in its face ect.
Signed, Dylan
Situation 1.
I would ask people stuff like how much you run or walk. Or do you wear shoes. Finally do you run track. would be my main questions.
Situation 2.
I would have to agree with Grania. I would ask how many meals they have a day, or do they get active a lot. Finally are they indoor or outdoor dogs.
John T.
1.) I would want to ask them how active they are. If there is one group filled with people that do all kinds of sports and then the other group is filled with people that hate sports and don’t do them then its not fair.
I would also ask them what they do for a living. If your a track coach then they are probably going to get worn out faster than if you were a bus driver.
I would also ask if they drag their feet. I know that I do and it really wears down my soles faster than if I actually pick them up off the groud.
~ Kate H~
the sneaker soles depend on how much u walk every day

Situation 1:
You might want to ask things like:
-How often do the run or exerscise?
-How often do they wear sneakers?
Situation 2:
I think some questions you might want to ask the owner are:
-How much exercise does the dog get?
-How often do they eat?
-What type of food do they usually eat?
Whether or not the dogs are healthy in general, if they get exercise, what they’re fed and how often.
Situation 1: I would ask how much you ran and or walked each day, and if you walked mostly on streets or grass or other surfaces.
Situation 2: I would ask how much the dog exercised each day and if they licked plates or ate leftovers or ate compost or anything elce.

Sneakers
My questions for the people would be how long they walk or exercise on average a day. Maybe where they walk because some surfaces may be harder than others or more bumpy.

Situation 2
Some questions you would ask before enrolling dogs:
1) What type of dog is it?
2) How much food does the dog usually eat?
3) Is it a naturally skinny (or fat) dog?
1. I would ask how much they wear the shoes. I would also ask what activities they do like, excercising, hiking, running etc. I would ask if they keep their shoes outside or inside. \
2. I would ask if the dogs get excercise. I would ask how often they eat.

In situation number one you would want to ask people how much they exercise everyday. You would also want to know how much the person weighs. For situation number two you should ask the people how much their dog exercises each day and how much their dog weighs because the dogs might be overweight, but their weights will vary. Another thing you should ask the dog owners are how much their dog eats every day.

~ what was the dogs beginning weight?
~ Is your dog active each day?
~ how often do they at human food?
~ how long ds your dog go out side each day?

Sneakers:
I would ask: How often you wore then and how much you use them like walking or running.

㉠ The question that I want ask them before begin the test is how often do they wear shoes or what kind of job do you have? How old are you? (If they are students) Do you do any sports after schools?
㉡ How often do they eat? How big are they? How big is your dog’s food?
-How much does your dog weigh?
-How much do you feed your dog?
-How much do you walk your dog?

you might want to ask things like:
-How the do the exerscise do for run?
-How the eveyone wear sneakers?
situation 2
youmight want to ask things
-How often do you take the dogs other outside?
Ricardo Agrinsoni
Well you need to ask a few questions
-How much exercise does your dog get?
-How much do you feed your dog?
-What kind of dog do you have?
those are some pretty basic questions you would ask before doing a study like that.
Arsen
situation 2
what do you give your dog?
Is your dog playful?
Dose your dog like to go outside?
Is you dog an lazy dog?
Do you ever walk your dog?
I would ask if the dog exercised daily and I would ask how many times a day the dog ate.
A few questions that I would ask the owner would be :
How much does your dog go out for exercise ?
Is your dog old or young?
What breed is your dog?
How often does your dog eat?
Whay was your dogs beginning weight?
Alexis W.
Situation 2
The questions I would like to ask the oweres would be
-what type of dog
-how many walks do give your dog
-does your dog stay home all day
-do you give them your leftovers or any of your feed
Jacob B.
situation 2
-how much food do you give dog give them?
-Are they lazy or active?
-what kind of breed your dog is?
One question you would want to ask about the fat dogs is how much the dog exercies. Another thing that you might want to ask is how big is their dog. If the dog is very big it would lose wait quickly becasue it would be given a small amount of food for its size. If the dog was, for example a toy poodle, the amont of food would be alot for such a small dog.
-Hugh Carroll
I would ask people how active they are. Like what sports they do, maybe what type of place they live in, possibly how old they are because that might affect there activeness.
-Val
Situation 2
How fat was the dog to begin with?
What are the dog’s breed?
Are all the dogs the same breed?
Do all the dogs run around?
How much do they eat?
Are any of the dogs aliens?

before you enroll the dogs you would probibly want to know what breed they are because chawawas eat WAY LESS then grate dains. you will also want to know how old they are because a growing dog will burn more callories then a full grown dog and i don’t mean to get all grose but puppies and young dogs tend to poop more frequently than old dogs and that can influence the data. Some other vareables that may influence the data is how much they weighed befor the test began because there are health risks involved, in addition to the health risks a dog can only lose so much weight so if the dog was extreamly obece befor the test he/she will lose more weight then a dog that is only 20 pounds or so over weight. the last varible I can think of befor I have to submit this is how much the dog exercizes and sleeps.
-Noah
It depends on how much you ware the shoes and how much you walk around in the shoe. Another thing that needs to be know is how long you will be waring the shoes.
How heavy are you? Do you where your shoes in the rain? Do you where them inside of your home? Do you exercise? If you do how long every day? When you do exercise what exercises do you do? What time of year/season was the experiment permitted? How ole are you? What is the general area that you use the shoes in?(work, school, outside, ect.) Are you a boy or a girl? How big are your feet?/What size do you whare?
I am very impressed with all of your responses! Asking questions like yours is so important for presenting your study results in a meaningful, truthful way. Good luck with your light levels analysis! – Amy S.
For the sneaker question some questions I would ask would be:
1. How often do you engage in high endurance activities? 2. How old are you? 3. How much do you weigh? 4.Are you a boy or a girl? 5.Do you where it in the rain? 6.Do you where it in the house? 7. Do you exercise? If you do how long every day? When you do exercise what exercises do you do? What time of year/season was the experiment permitted? How ole are you?
